GORE-TEX membranes are durably waterproof and do not require special maintenance to keep water out.
However, the water-repellent (DWR) treatment of the outer fabric will wear out over time, which allows rain to wet it out, making the garment heavier and less breathable. Reproofing your GORE-TEX product keeps the water-repellent treatment active and enhances comfort. See further instructions at www.gore-tex.com / https://www.gore-tex.com/support/care/outerwear.
The microscopic pores of the membrane that allow moisture to escape outwards can get clogged with dirt or oils, compromising the garment’s breathability. Make sure to keep your garment clean according to the care label instructions for optimal performance.
It is important to know how to wash your GORE-TEX outerwear properly. Well cared for gear will protect you better and last longer.
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO WASH MY GORE-TEX GARMENT?
Be sure to read the manufacturer’s care tag first. Wash your GORE-TEX garment in the washing machine in warm (105°F/40°C) water. For the best results, use a small amount of liquid detergent. Please do not use powder detergents, fabric softener or chlorine bleach.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WASH MY GORE-TEX GARMENT?
Wash your garment as often as you need to remove such impurities as dirt, campfire smoke and cooking odors. Washing, drying and reheating your garment helps restore the durable water repellent (DWR) that is important to the performance of a GORE-TEX garment. Do not tumble dry GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments.
